Horizontal Drilling Companies in Dubai UAE – : Every boring contractor’s objective is to be profitable. To achieve this goal, the project must be efficient and must be completed within an acceptable time frame. These objectives require proper planning, skill and experience on the part of those in charge and of those on the project who operate the machinery and a variety of other tools. From a contractor’s point of view, there can be little benefit in any failures of equipment or tooling. Disclosed industry tooling failures do lead, however, to the discovery of alternative procedures for achieving future drilling success.

Tooling failures are often the result of unusual or complex conditions which arise from unknown hazards — hazards that do not occur in directional drilling. Other failures are frequently the result of practices in the production process. Experience, for which there is no substitute, is key in directional drilling. As with other professional endeavors, expert drill use depends on knowledge and skill, which is developed over time. Mud motors in high PSI applications are important in horizontal drilling. The following are five suggestions in production processes for maintaining efficiency in the use of mud motors in the directional drilling process of resource extraction.

First, avoid stalling the motor, as a motor stall usually indicates that the fluid flow has stopped motor rotation. This can be the result of increased thrust while in contact with the rock or cutting face, preventing motor rotation. This type of motor stalling forces fluid through the rotor and stator assembly without any rotation, which in turn leads to damage of both the motor and the pump.

Second, minimize abrasives in the fluid as much as possible by keeping all screens clean and in good condition. Effectiveness is a function of tolerance between motors and other equipment like the stator. All abrasives in this process are moving at high pressure through the motor, causing wear, reducing torque and, ultimately, overall productivity.

Third, be prudent by performing maintenance on a weekly basis or at around 100 hours of use, for the simple reason that moving parts in motors wear out. Sometimes it may seem that budget or production timetables demand foregoing scheduled maintenance. Remember, though, that horizontal directional drilling equipment usually breaks at the wrong time and repairs can be very costly. Most breakdowns can be prevented with methodical maintenance; it rarely pays, in the long run, to skip it. Productivity depends on teamwork and on the collective operation of men and the equipment they use. In drilling, and especially in horizontal and directional drilling, this includes a myriad of parts: bearings, rotor, stator, etc. Usually, if maintenance is not performed weekly or after only a hundred hours or so, the equipment’s full effectiveness will diminish and costs of service will rise. If the machinery malfunctions or breaks as a result of insufficient maintenance, the cost will be even greater.

Fourth, remember that projects may appear profitable when worked out on paper, but that profitability on a busy highway or other potentially dangerous work site is another matter. When a hazardous project is already over budget and past its completion time, with others waiting impatiently for the job to be finished, profits can drop or evaporate altogether. There are instances in which tooling has justifiably been sacrificed to finish the bore, just to get the project done. These are not situations, however, that anyone finds satisfactory or profitable in the end.

There are many cases in which effective practices actually increase the crew’s productivity and lower expenses in completion, while reducing tooling costs of the total holes drilled. These are the processes that incorporate the previous suggestions for proven success in running directional drilling over the long haul.

  1. Horizontal Drilling

Anyone with a finger on the pulse of current events had likely heard murmurings from various parties about our dependence on finite oil supplies and other fossil fuels as well as ways we might over-come this dependency. Others have gone a different route and looked for ways that we might get more oil out of the wells that we already have, to do more with what we already have in other words.

One of the problems is that most oil and natural gas reservoirs are more extensive horizontally then they are vertically, which means a straight vertical well will expose less surface area of the reservoir for oil to be pulled from. Normally this is not a problem since the oil in the surrounding rock will be pulled toward the well during the extraction process anyway, but wells located in a material with a low permeability matrix can prove problematic in this regard.

These materials, such as shale, tend to limit the amount of oil that can be gleaned from a single well and may require multiple rigs and wells be drilled to get all of the oil out of the same reservoir, a costly endeavor that lacked a cost-efficient solution until recently. Horizontal drilling is when the drill-bit and string is gradually rotated as it drills so that it curves to the side as it drills into the well, eventually going full on horizontal until it reaches the desired point. This process allows oil-drillers to expose much more ‘surface area’ of the reservoir to their pumps so that they can extract more oil from a reservoir before it becomes unsustainable, especially in reservoirs with a low permeability matrix.

This process is not new by any means, first developed in 1891 with the advent of flexible shafts to rotate drill bits but it wasn’t very feasible economically. The capability to create horizontal shafts was eclipsed by the fact that oil drillers had no way to pin-point the drill’s path underground without the use of complicated mathematics and constantly pausing the drilling to take new measurements of how far down the drill bit had gone. As you can imagine this is a time-consuming and expensive process that was rarely profitable enough to make it worthwhile until the advent of more modern scanning and imaging technology.

These days a sensor placed behind the drill bit can provide the drillers with a constant update of the drill’s position and depth, allowing for an easier time in digging a horizontal well where it needs to be placed in order to expose as much of an oil reservoir as the well can to digging. Even still a horizontal well can be much more expensive and time consuming to dig compared to a vertical well and as such the latter is still the preferred method of drilling for oil and natural gas when both types of wells will provide equal results; considering a horizontal well can cost upwards of three hundred percent as much as a vertical well, this is typically the correct choice as well.

So why would anyone construct a horizontal well in the first place? It all comes back to the low permeability of certain types of stone that can be found surrounding and inside of an oil reservoir which can make vertical drilling less profitable. In these situations a horizontal well will still be more expensive then a vertical one but it will also allow greater access to the reservoir itself and thus allow for more oil or natural gas to be gathered.

Horizontal drilling in Dubai can also help to ‘vent’ pressure and dangerous build ups of gas within oil reservoirs to make it safer for diggers to work and, finally, this digging method can allow oil platforms and rigs to be spaced out over a larger distance while still tapping into the same reservoir. While it’s not right for every situation, modernized horizontal digging can allow oil companies to draw from otherwise unprofitable reservoirs and extract more oil then they otherwise could.

As part of the drilling process, incorporating a rotating control head has been a key element. A rotating control head works as a rotating flow diverter and diverts the flow of lubricants and drill clippings from the drill site. It makes for a safer cleaner environment for the operator. The use of a rotating control head lowers drilling costs because you can achieve faster penetration rates, reduce non-drilling time, and reduce mud volume and density requirements from underbalanced drilling.

Natural gas has been the focus of attention since scientific studies have very well proved that, it is the most harmless of all the other fossil fuels, when it comes to the question of environmental friendliness. It is true, since it releases the least amount of the green house gases that promote global warming and this has made it the favorite, for the people around the globe.

In the past, most of the gas drilling companies across the US, have been concentrating mainly only one type of drilling. This was the vertical drilling method, which was employed to drill out the natural gases that was locked below the earth, by drilling vertically through the earth. Most of the past gas wells had been dug using this method.

But recently it was found by experts that, by employing a horizontal driller for drilling the gas wells, more amount of the natural-gas can be produced. By employing this technique today most of the natural-gas wells across the United States of America, have been very successful in drilling huge volumes of gas, from the rocks present in the earth formations. To accomplish the horizontal drilling of a gas well, the gas drilling companies use a device which is called as a mud motor. During such a process of horizontal drilling, the earth is first dug using the already practiced traditional drilling method, up to a certain depth. Once a certain level has been reached, then the company employs the horizontal drilling procedure, which gives them the choice of drilling at any angle.

In the horizontal drilling process, along with the mud motor, a combination of fluids is also released by the drilling company, from the surface of the rig. This method enhances the efficiency and the speed at which the mud motor works and thereby, helps in the faster drilling of the natural-gas wells. This has indeed very well resulted in the spurt of the surplus production of the gas, from these natural-gas wells. Most of the natural-gas wells that are being dug around the US are being dug using the horizontal drilling technique and the vertical drilling method, has become one that is outdated.

It demand has also made the horizontal drilling process to get much support from the government, as a way to encourage the gas drilling companies, to increase the gas production from the natural-gas wells, present in the various states of the US. Though the scope for the horizontal drilling process is very rosy in the future, there are a couple of issues, which is a real cause of concern for the public and also for the environment. It is found that the gas drilling companies, who employ the horizontal drilling process, use various types of chemicals as fluids during the drilling process, which can in turn pollute the water tables located below the earth. This is an issue that has been a cause for arguments, both for the public as well as the environmental groups, who really question the environmental friendliness of the horizontal drilling procedure.
